Telemedicine is one of those emerging fields where progress can be achieved only through productive interactions among constituencies that normally do not communicate well. These conversations need to involve; besides the usual suspects involved in healthcare; the telecommunications providers, the care givers in distant regions or countries, and those who create standards and regulations.

Ashok's hope in creating this Research Discussion is to provide a conversation platform where the parties involved in promoting telemedicine (and telehealth) can discuss complex issues, understand the perspectives, and make new friends.

This discussion extends the conversations Monitor Technologies began at a workshop on “The Implications of Telemedicine” that Monitor, in partnership with Financial Times, hosted in Cambridge, MA in May 2006. The next topic outlines some of the insights they gained at the workshop and questions that were raised.
